I know I'm late on discussion, but hey....

This gave me a great laugh: "It is not impossible to denote that there is not God. I denote there is not God; therefore, it is possible to denote that there is no God." Lol, enough said.

I'm with you on this matter. There is but one life to live. I don't think life was meant to come around twice. I find that whole mindset disempowers people. People get into that mindset and they start saying things like "I will pray to God for this job and if he doesn't answer than it wasn't meant to happen." I find people with strong beliefs in God to be the most passive people. As you said, people create the belief in God to explain what they don't know, until someone comes along and explains it. Take the water cycle for example. It used to be said that when it rains, it was a sign of God's anger, wrath and etc. Wait, people still believe that in this day, with all the knowledge of the water cycle that is supposed to be taught in elementary school.

Hey CF, first off, I want to thank you for commenting. With that said...

It is not impossible to denote that there is not God. I denote there is not God; therefore, it is possible to denote that there is no God.

All things do NOT testify of him. There is not a single thing in my life that testifies that there is a God.

No one has seen him in the past 200 years.

Why would God magically show up to speak to a boy who is confused about a church? Why wasn't God there to protect the people during 9/11 when they were praying for God to save them? Where was God in all of the religious wars that have gone on on this earth?

If I go to a grove of trees and ask God what church I will join, he will NOT show up and tell me where to go.

No C.F., you are wrong. There is NO God. He is but a false belief that you have. He is your warm blanket protecting you form the fears of the night. He is the answer for the weak of mind because you feel you NEED a higher power to live for. The truth is that we have but one life to live and that is it. You are scared to think that this life is all we have. After all, isn't it scary to think that when we die it is all over?

Man has created the afterlife because of our fear of death. We want to live on forever, so we have invented God and the after-life to make us feel safe.

I await your response.

While it is free for anyone to have or go without religion, it is almost impossible to denote that there isn't a god. All things testify of him and all atheists have is their own word that he doesn't exist. And besides that someone has seen him within the past 200 years. In 1820 A young boy was in a grove of trees (Joseph smith) Praying as to which of all the churches he should join, when something incredible happened, he saw two personages who's brightness and glory defy all description and the one standing above him pointed to the others saying "This is my beloved son, in whom i am well pleased." I know that Joseph Smith truly saw what he says he saw, and so i believe and know God is real for myself, he is our loving heavenly father

Hey Ian, thanks for your response. I read your post and I will follow up with a blog response of my own.

A "true skeptic" means that I absolutely believe that there is no right or wrong. I believe that everyone chooses what to do and that there is no justification for what you do except for your own.

There are a lot of things that come from being a "true skeptic." I will write a blog post about it first, then I will respond to your post.

Great post...I'm always interested to hear different opinions about religion/spirituality.

When you say you're a "Skeptic" what does that mean? Agnostic?

I'm a Christian, but I try to keep an open mind as much as possible and agree with you that there likely isn't an absolute reality. If you're interested, I blogged about this topic and my perspective a few years ago here: About Religion

I once attended a debate between an atheist and a Christian titled "Does God Exist?". The Christian started off very clearly that he cannot prove that God exists, but similar to your reasoning for not wanting to jump off a cliff tomorrow, he would show that rationally speaking, there are more reasons to believe in a God than not.

By "God" I mean a higher power or "the Universe". I do have faith, but ultimately I also like to question anything people tell me!
