This is it: 2010 is the make or break year

make it or break it

“Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they’re too scared, or they don’t recognize it when it spits on their shoes”

- The Babe

Chance spat on my shoe in 2009.  2010 is the year I take action…

A chance for Viralogy: The Viralogy team has been through some hard times; 2010 is the year that we finally make it together, or fail and respectfully part our separate ways.  The opportunity is there for the taking: we’ve received funding, the team is moving to SF, the business model is solid, and the finished product will debut in February.  There are no excuses this time around.  If we fail, we have only ourselves to blame.

A chance for love: Kim and I have never really tested our relationship.  For the past 2 years and a half, we have been inseparable and the crystal image of the perfect couple.  My move to SF away from Kim will test our ability to maintain a happy long distance relationship.  All my previous attempts have failed, but I’m confident that Kim and I will come out of this experience stronger than ever.

A chance to break the template lifestyle: Adam Baker, Monica O’Brien, Carlos Miceli, Cody Mckibben, Andrew Norcross, and I have come together to form Untemplater, which launches January 4th.  There were many naysayers that said it couldn’t be done:

“It’s too difficult to organize a large team of motivated Gen Yers towards one unified goal.  It just can’t be done and you’ll end up hating each other after it.”

For the strong, naysayers motivate; they do not discourage.

We have sacrificed a lot the past two months and have established a site that I am absolutely 100% proud of.  Next week you’ll be able to download our free Manifesto and participate in the community that will help students and young professionals work where they want, live how they want, and be who they want to be.

A chance to succeed in life

In order to succeed in life, I have to accomplish the following:

  1. Generate the income necessary to support my Mom and Dad throughout their retirement
  2. Purchase my brother a large piece of land where he can grow vegetables and roam free with the animals
  3. Travel across the 7 continents with Kim Ear before we get married and settle down with a family
  4. Establish my own scholarship fund for students in Peru to come study in the United States
  5. Build an Angel Fund with my Co-Founder Yu-kai Chou and invest our money in startups

If 2010 goes well, it will be a solid step towards accomplishing these 5 life goals.  Of course, you’ll come along with me every step of the way as you follow my journey on this blog.

Happy New Year!!!

Sounds like some great goals Jun! Ping me when you get fully settled in SF! It’s a fun town, kinda expensive, but absolutely BUZZING with creativity, money, and spirit!

Happy New Year, Jun!

I’d gone through a long distance relationship and although it ended eventually, I learnt that there’s gotta be 101% trust in each other and lots of communication between the couple (more than usual) for the relationship to work. It will indeed be a great test and I’d love to see you guys pull it through.

I admire your goals in life but I’d suggest you teach your brother how to acquire his own land rather than buy him the land. It’s always better to teach someone how to fish than to simply give him the fish.

Finally, I wish you and your loved ones a very happy, healthy and wealthy 2010!

Cheers~

Mark

That’s a really great point about my brother! I’m always very protective (as I am the older brother), but it would be best if he could get the land himself.

I’ll change my goal to: “Help my brother achieve the capital necessary to purchase his own piece of land”

Happy New Year to you as well

Hi Jun,

Good luck in 2010. How does Viralogy make money? Is it a paid product?

Companies pay to use our platform.

Good question!
